Richard Dalton worked with Princess Diana from 1981 to 1993. The royal hairstylist has revealed in an interview that instead of drastic chops, he used to do it gradually by clipping one fourth of an inch every week! Isn’t that an interesting revelation?
Before going for a trip to Africa, Richard Dalton recalled that the late Princess of Wales asked him for a new look, but he felt that making a change to the hair style would be too stark to unveil all of a sudden. He said “Whatever I did to her hair became front page news. We had to be very careful. We had to do it one-fourth of an inch at a time over several weeks.”
Richard Dalton personally assisted Princess Diana for 12 years as her hairstylist. He styled her tresses for several occasions, some requiring tiaras. It is a fact that styling hair around an adorned royal headpiece is more challenging than one could ever imagine, because hair products cannot touch it. Richard Dalton said -” What people don’t realize is the magnitude of that monarch length veil and the significance of the tiara. It’s a crown jewel, and must be respected and protected. You have to be extremely careful and gentle with it, and absolutely no hairspray or styling product can touch the stones.”
Princess Diana was one of the most fashionable women of her time! Any outfit she wore or any hairstyle she unveiled became a trend and whirl among her fans. Her amazing fashion sense made her a fashion icon for many. And Richard Dalton being her hair stylist always made sure that the Princess looked her best and kept her style and aura in mind when creating her hair styles.
Richard Dalton now lives in California. He met Diana when he was merely 17 years old. Then he used to cut her sister’s hair at Fenwick of Bond Street’s in-store salon. He was asked to be Princess Diana’s personal stylist in 1983! A bond that lasted for 12 years. The hairdresser also gave Prince William and Prince Harry their first ever haircuts in his time with the family. Dalton has also previously opened up about working with Diana and the insights he got about her relationship with the Prince of Wales. He once told the Daily Mail: “I don’t gossip, but I do know she was really in love with Charles. I always felt she had to be protected, not exposed. Let me tell you, the inner circle of power, it’s not attractive. Diana wasn’t prepared to put up with that. She always used to say to me: ‘’I’ll show this family.’’’
